What the internal link checker looks for

Most link checkers count links. This one understands them. The crawl builds a topic model of your content and the graph of in-text links between pages; navigation, sidebar, and footer links are excluded on purpose, because a page reachable only through a menu is still an orphan where ranking signals are concerned.

From that model, the checker surfaces the three problems that cost the most rankings: pages with few or no inbound contextual links, related pages that never link to each other, and thin anchor patterns. Every finding is concrete: source page, target page, and the exact phrase in your copy that would make a natural anchor.

When you want the findings fixed rather than listed, the same engine becomes an internal linking tool: approve the suggestions and they ship to your site through one small script. For the methodology behind the checks, see our internal link audit page or the complete internal linking guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is the internal link checker really free?
Yes: no account, no email, no trial clock. Paste a URL and get results in about 20 seconds. The free scan samples your first pages; a hosted plan unlocks the full-site crawl and the complete opportunity list.
What does the checker actually analyze?
It reads your sitemap, crawls a sample of pages, extracts titles, headings, and body text, and builds the in-text link graph, deliberately ignoring navigation and footer links. It then models topics with TF-IDF vectors and scores page pairs that should be linked but aren't, picking anchor candidates from sentences that already exist on your pages.
How is this different from a broken link checker?
A broken link checker finds links that exist but fail. This tool finds links that should exist but don't: missing connections between related pages, which is where the SEO upside actually is. Broken links lose you a little; missing links cost you rankings quietly, at scale.
Do I need to install anything to check my links?
No. The checker works from the outside, exactly like a search engine crawler: give it a URL and it does the rest. Installation (a 2 KB script or the WordPress plugin) only comes into play later, if you decide to ship the suggested links through Linkagent.
Can I share the results?
Yes. Every scan generates a shareable report link with its own preview card, handy for sending to a client or teammate before any account exists.
